Coffee Filter Wreath

9/19/2010

This is really easy and inexpensive wreath. You can use white, brown or white dyed in your choice of color coffee filters. I added gold craft paint to the ends when they were still in packaged form.

A great tip for making wreath: go to the plumbing department at Home Depot or Lowes and grab a six foot long piece of foam tubing for $.97!! Snip the length you want with scissors and duct tape the ends together. Voila! You have a really inexpensive wreath form. You can probably get three to four wreaths out of one piece.

Grab your hot glue gun on a low setting and attach the filters with a dot of glue at the bottom, bunch together and attach close together. I hung mine over an old window frame I found at an antique shop.

  24. I am so going to make that. I have a ton of white filters I no longer use, and I think I'll tea stain them. I have a question. Did you just put one dot of glue on and glue down the middle dot of the coffee filter, then do that all over so they were all crammed together? I'm crafty challenged and need things spelled out to me lol!

  50. How do you get it so round? My tubing sort of goes all bulbous and looks more like a triangle than a lovely circle. I see I am not the only one with such problems, good to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous3:29 PM

I think the issue with not being able to get the pipe insulation round has to do with the diameter of the insulation used. At least that's the issue I had. At first I used 3/4 inch diameter tubing and it was bulging and wouldn't get very round. Then I got 1/2 inch diameter tubing and it bends into a beautiful circle without any issues. Hope this helps some others!

  53. Love this idea and in trying to execute I am failing lol! My piping is not making a nice neat circle like yours, in beding at certain points....HELP! Did you have a trick?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I had a similar problem like about. i bought the thing from lowes, plumbing dept, cut it and it wont shape into a circle. any advice? it keeps folding in half, instead of rounding out ;) FAIL!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think issues of keeping it round have to do with the diameter of the tubing. I used 1 1/4" tubing that is actually hollow (not sure if that makes a difference). I didn't have any problem creating a round shape. Also, the length (from memory) was probably around 30" long (maybe a little less) after I cut it with scissors. I think the wider in diameter it is, the less it will want to bend in half. Hope this helps!!

  66. Anonymous9:20 PM

I bought the foam but it seemed to bend in half in four spots, where it needed to bend the most, when I tried to make it circle. I now have a diamond shaped form....which honestly I have a fabulous ideas for BUT I was looking forward to having an inexpensive wreath form. Are there different thicnknesses in the foam? Maybe I bought one that was too thin? Great blog by the way!
