Behind the Scenes: Hair Talk Extensions

I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Ashlyn Bausman of Sulimay's Urban Salon for a full hair make-over featuring Hair Talk Extensions. Ashlyn is an excellent stylist specializing in tape in extensions.

I've used the clip in versions most of the summer, but I have to say, it was becoming increasingly annoying to have to take them in and out morning and night. You can see my post HERE all about clip-ins.

I love these extensions! Ashlyn made the process super easy and it really didn't take a long time to complete the install. If you are considering extensions, here is everything you need to know...

Plus-- check the bottom of this post for a special discount!

The first thing you will do is come in to the salon for a color match consult. This is the BEST way to determine the correct shade. Ashlyn has samples of each color that she can match directly to your hair. Can't find an exact match? No worries, you can color, cut and heat style your extensions to blend perfectly.

I have on two packs of Originals Plus in the 18-20" length in color 613/18r. The r means they are rooted, which is another way they blend into your natural hair. The extensions come with a slight wave which makes styling them extremely easy.

Once the extensions are ordered, you will set up your install appointment. My appointment took roughly an hour and half. Ashlyn will start with a clarifying shampoo to rid your hair of any excess product, dirt and oil. Then she will blow your hair dry straight.

Now you are ready for the install! She maps out the extensions before placing them so they lay nicely and you are still able to pull your hair into a hight pony tail.

Here is a quick video on the process of installing:

These extensions are so light weight and feel very natural. To care for them make sure you follow these rules:

1. Sulfate and Silicone free hair products (Ashlyn recommends Living Proof)
2. Avoid conditioner near the roots
3. No alcohol (hair spray or perfume)
4. Brush them out at night and put in a braid or two buns to keep them from tangling
5. Have them adjusted every 6-8 weeks (use this time to touch up your color while they are out)

"Going from clip-ins to tape-ins is like going from a push up bra to implants!" -Ashlyn :)
